Direct-to-Film Printing
Full Color Printing
Unlimited colors, gradients, and photographic detail in a single transfer. Complex artwork and fine lines reproduce with exceptional clarity.
No Setup Fees
No screens, plates, or color separations required. DTF transfers are produced digitally, keeping costs low at any quantity.
Fast Turnaround
Transfers are produced quickly and applied with a heat press, making DTF one of the fastest decoration methods available for custom apparel.
Soft Hand Feel
DTF transfers bond tightly to fabric with a flexible adhesive layer, producing a smooth, soft finish without the stiff or cracked feel of older transfer methods.
Wash-Durable Finish
DTF transfers are engineered to resist cracking, peeling, and fading through repeated wash cycles, maintaining vibrant color and sharp detail over time.
Works on Any Fabric
Unlike DTG, DTF transfers adhere to cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, and performance fabrics — giving you maximum flexibility across your product line.
What is Direct-to-Film Printing?
Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing is a modern garment decoration method in which designs are printed onto a special PET film using water-based inks, coated with a hot-melt adhesive powder, and then heat-pressed directly onto the garment. The result is a full-color, highly detailed transfer that bonds permanently to the fabric surface.
Unlike screen printing, DTF requires no screens or color minimums. Unlike DTG, it is not limited to cotton — DTF works on virtually any fabric type, including polyester, nylon, blends, and performance materials. For apparel brands and wholesale clients, DTF delivers premium print quality with the flexibility to decorate a wide range of garments at any order volume.
How DTF Printing Works
Film Printing
Design is printed in full color onto a PET release film using specialized water-based inks
Powder Coating
Hot-melt adhesive powder is applied evenly over the wet ink while still on the film
Curing
The film passes through a curing oven to melt and bond the adhesive powder to the ink layer
Heat Press Transfer
Transfer film is heat-pressed onto the garment, bonding the design permanently to the fabric
Peel & Quality Check
Film is peeled away, and each garment is inspected to ensure the transfer meets production standards
Best Use Cases for DTF
- Print-on-Demand Fulfillment: Ideal for e-commerce brands operating POD models with no inventory overhead
- Small Batch Production: Economical for runs of 1–100 units with no setup costs or minimum order requirements
- Limited Edition Drops: Perfect for seasonal releases, exclusive collections, and time-sensitive launches
- Sample Production: Test colorways and design placements before committing to larger production runs
- Complex Artwork: Photographic images, fine line details, gradients, and multi-color graphics with no color limits
- Performance & Synthetic Fabrics: Decorate polyester, nylon, and moisture-wicking blends where DTG is not an option
- Personalization: Individual names, numbers, or per-unit custom variations without additional setup cost
Compatible Fabrics
One of DTF's most significant advantages over other decoration methods is its broad fabric compatibility. DTF transfers adhere to cotton, polyester, nylon, rayon, tri-blends, performance fabrics, and most other textile types. Light and dark garments both produce excellent results, with no pre-treatment required. This makes DTF the preferred choice for brands working across diverse product categories — from heavyweight cotton tees to lightweight athletic wear.
